Learning Dialogue: Reimagining Evaluation through Foresight and Resilience

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Learning Dialogue: Reimagining Evaluation through Foresight and Resilience On 28 April 2026, the Global Alliance Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) committee hosted the Learning Dialogue "Reimagining Evaluation through Foresight and Resilience", where the MEL committee's lead, Tehout Selameab (McKnight), interviewed Michael Quinn Patton on his paper Deepening Our Understanding of Resilience: How Evaluation Can Contribute. The plenary conversation afterwards highlighted the need for evaluation to move beyond retrospective approaches toward more adaptive and real-time practices. A key reflection was that while philanthropy increasingly talks about shifting power to communities, its MEL and grant-making practices can still lag. Watch the highlights of this rich conversation. Speakers: Tehout Selameab, MEL Committee Lead at the Global Alliance (McKnight Foundation) Michael Quinn Patton, Senior Advisor on Evaluation at the Global Alliance
