The ICOS Ocean Thematic Centre (OTC) coordinates ICOS ocean stations in Europe that monitor carbon uptake and fluxes in the North Atlantic and the Nordic, Baltic and Mediterranean Seas. The measurement methods include sampling from ships, moorings and buoys. The objective is to ensure high quality greenhouse gas measurements that are independent, transparent and reliable. In turn, this monitoring system will support governments in their efforts to mitigate climate change as well as holding them accountable for reaching their mitigation targets. ICOS has a range of greenhouse gas measurement stations all across Europe.
