HNPW 2026: Security Risk Management for Healthcare
Violence against health services in conflict remains a persistent threat, with severe consequences for health workers and for communities’ access to care. Health facilities must remain open and accessible and this requires security risk management approaches that go beyond protecting staff but that also integrate safeguarding services sometimes requiring adoption of how care is being provided. Despite this need, knowledge on patterns of violence, mitigation measures, and best practices in secure health care delivery is rarely integrated into routine health programming.
This panel shared insights from the GISF Community of Practice on Security Risk Management for Healthcare. It will present findings from a pilot study exploring how real-time security incident tracking can be incorporated into routine health information monitoring (DHIS2). The session also featured experiences from humanitarian health providers who have recently adapted their approaches to address violence against health services.
