This documentary captures Phase I of PropelA (2022-2025), the pilot employer‑led dual apprenticeship programme transforming skills development in Kenya’s construction sector. It highlights how the programme bridges the gap between training and industry needs through hands‑on learning in electrical installation and plumbing. Featuring apprentices, employers, and partners. The film showcases real‑world training in action, early results, and the critical lessons from Phase I that are informing the strategic scale‑up and expansion of PropelA in Phase II (2026-2029). PropelA is an employer‑led dual apprenticeship programme designed to strengthen Kenya’s construction workforce by bridging the gap between training and industry demand. Inspired by the Swiss apprenticeship model and tailored to the Kenyan context, PropelA equips young people with practical, industry‑relevant skills in electrical installation and plumbing. Launched in 2021 by the Hilti Foundation and Swisscontact, Phase I (2022–2025) served as the pilot phase, training 300+ apprentices, with more than 80% securing employment. The pilot successfully introduced a private sector‑led, NITA‑accredited curriculum, co‑developed by 60+ employers who also hosted apprentices for on‑the‑job training, reporting an average 30% return on training investment. These results validate the model and provide a strong foundation for scaling PropelA’s impact in Phase II (2026–2029).
