First Ever Olive Seeds Stored in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault

A historic milestone for global crop conservation!

For the first time, olive seeds have been deposited in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, strengthening efforts to safeguard the genetic diversity of one of the world’s most iconic trees.

Protecting olive genetic resources provides a vital safety net for producers, researchers, and the global olive sector, especially as agriculture faces increasing environmental and climate challenges.

The Crop Trust congratulates the International Olive Council for taking this important step toward the long-term conservation of olive diversity.
