How Fatoumata Brought the Smiles Back

Thousands of children displaced by conflict in Mopti, Mali, arrive at displacement sites carrying trauma, isolation, and interrupted schooling — struggling to reconnect with learning or with each other. Community volunteer Fatoumata, trained through Right To Play's EMPOWER project, uses play-based psychosocial support to help these children feel safe, rebuild confidence, and re-engage with their peers and their education. Her work — grounded in joy, circle games, and showing up — is quietly changing what displaced children believe is possible for themselves.
