From Ukraine to Iran: both wars are targeting the world’s food and energy supply
"There’s continuity between what’s happening in Ukraine and what’s happening in Iran,” says Sharon E. Burke, chief engagement officer for the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). “Russia has systematically targeted energy assets, food, Ukraine’s ability not only to produce grain but to export it. This is war. This is what it looks like. It’s just a very extreme version in Iran because the Strait of Hormuz is such a globally significant throughput.”
