The Plucker Isn’t Enough!

At Pastured Life Farm, David makes a great point about chicken processing: the plucker may get all the attention, but the scalder is what makes the whole process work.

Getting the right heat at a steady temperature is what helps release the feathers properly. Without that step, the plucker can spin all day and still not do the job well.

And when you move from chickens to turkeys, the setup changes again. Bigger birds mean more weight, more spacing, and a slower pace through the equipment.
