Serbia’s First Biodistrict: Farmers Growing Sustainable Food Systems
In western Serbia’s Kolubara District, farmers, producers, and communities are coming together to strengthen sustainable food systems through the country’s first biodistrict.
Organic livestock farms, fruit producers, and traditional mills are working together to promote environmentally friendly agriculture, local food production, and rural development. For farmers like Tomislav Sretenović, the biodistrict has created new opportunities for cooperation, knowledge exchange, and connection with consumers.
This video explores how the Kolubara Biodistrict is supporting organic producers while strengthening rural livelihoods and sustainable agriculture in Serbia.
The initiative was funded by the Joint SDG Fund and led by the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Serbia. It was implemented by FAO, UNEP, and UN Women, with support from UNECE, in cooperation with Serbia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management and other national and local partners.
