Building Communities Capacity with TOSTAN: Data For Community Protection. (Part B)

Across West & Northern Africa, gaps in open data especially in health, education, and child protection, make it harder for governments, NGOs, social enterprises, and humanitarian groups to plan and respond effectively. Our Open Mapping Hub in WNA is working with TOSTAN, an NGO dedicated to driving change in communities through human rights–based education, fostering dignity, equality, and sustainable development across Africa to change that. How? By building TOSTAN's affiliate communities' skills in data collection, analysis, and open sharing. Using HOT’s proven open mapping methodology of hands-on training, technical guidance, and support to upload critical information to OpenStreetMap (OSM), creating a reliable and accessible data source for all. Gearing on the open data model, communities also learn to use HOT’s export tool, ensuring they can access, share, and analyse their data to strengthen humanitarian and social services in their region.
