"Every child has the potential": how inclusive education is changing children’s futures in Uganda

Every child has the right to a quality education. At Sightsavers, we work with children, parents, teachers, organisations of people with disabilities and school communities to make this happen. We also work with governments to strengthen education systems, creating sustainable change and supporting children with disabilities to realise their potential. In Uganda, we’ve worked in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sports to develop a training package for serving teachers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to support children with disabilities in their classes. The package is now being rolled out by the government to schools across the country. This film highlights how the roll out involves the entire school community, including tutors, headteachers, classroom teachers, children and parents, in eastern Uganda. With thanks to our partners: the Ministry of Education and Sports, Kyambogo University, and multiple non-governmental organisations across Uganda. We’d also like to thank the project’s participants, including children with disabilities and their families, co-ordinating centre tutors, headteachers, teachers and local communities across the country.
