Saint Lucia Fisheries Marine Debris Removal & Sustainable Raft System Project (CBF-CRAB)

The visit to Savannes Bay showcased a marine debris removal and sea moss initiative, implemented in partnership with the Fisheries Department and SLUNCF. The project, a direct beneficiary under the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF), is being funded through the Caribbean Regional Architecture Biodiversity (CRAB) project under their sea moss grant portfolio. The initiative supports climate-resilient livelihoods through aquaculture (sea moss production) while contributing to ecosystem restoration. Participants observed how the initiative is improving coastal health, promoting sustainable marine practices, and enhancing income opportunities for local communities. This visit was done during the 2026 NCTF Mentorship Exchange Workshop in St. Lucia. The mentorship initiative was supported by the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF) through its Endowment mechanism and the Caribbean Regional Architecture Biodiversity (CRAB) Project which is funded by Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and French Global Environmental Facility (FFEM).
