Horses play a crucial role in Kutch, carrying fish in villages around the coastline. They are loaded with fish from the boat while standing in the sea and carry bags (of around 20kgs) to the shore. This has significantly reduced the workload of women in the community, who used to carry fish in baskets on their heads from the boats to the shore for sorting, transporting and selling at markets.
