Webinar: The importance of teacher knowledge: Insights from the new OECD Teacher Knowledge Survey
How do teachers know how to teach effectively? How do they keep students focused on learning, even at the end of a long school day? How can we motivate students, especially those at risk of falling behind? How do we assess them and give useful, actionable feedback?
Knowledge of teaching and learning, also known as general pedagogical knowledge (GPK), can help teachers answer all of these questions. But what do we really know about teachers’ GPK? For the first time, the OECD has international evidence on this. The Teacher Knowledge Survey is the first global study to map teachers’ general pedagogical knowledge across countries. Drawing on data from eight education systems, it sheds light on what teachers know and why these foundations matter for both teachers and students.
In this launch event, policymakers and leading international experts unpack these findings and explore a crucial question: How can education systems support teachers to develop this specialised knowledge of teaching and learning?
Speakers include:
▶️ Andreas Schleicher, OECD Director for Education and Skills
▶️ Fernando Alexandre, Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Portugal
▶️ Linda Darling-Hammond, Chief Knowledge Officer at the Learning Policy Institute
▶️ David Edwards, General Secretary of Education International
▶️ Moderated by Duncan Crawford, Senior Content Manager, OECD Directorate for Education and Skills
