Sub-standard falsified veterinary products (SFVPs): What they are and what WOAH is doing about them

Sub-standard falsified veterinary products (SFVPs): What they are and what WOAH is doing about them

Substandard and falsified veterinary products (SFVP) are authorised veterinary products (VP) that fail to meet either their quality standards or their specifications, or both. They are unauthorised veterinary products which deliberately or fraudulently misrepresent their identity. They can be found in different ways, including at street markets, via unregulated websites, or through pharmacies, clinics or hospitals. The SFVP has negative impacts on animal and human health, including antimicrobial resistance. To support Members in addressing this complex issue, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) is working on the development of a Global Information & Alert System for SFVPs. This video by WOAH, produced under the "Working Together to Fight Antimicrobial Resistance" project funded by the European Union, showcases WOAH's efforts to combat substandard and falsified veterinary products (SFVPs). It particularly emphasises the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration through VSAFE (a definitive name of the platform will be set by WOAH by mid-August).
