For the first time ever, olive seeds were deposited in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, as part of an international safety backup effort. The deposit to was made possible thanks to an international effort involving the FAO’s International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, the International Olive Council, the Universities of Córdoba and Granada, with support from the Spanish Plant Genetic Resources Centre and NordGen.
