🌋 Volcanic eruption tracking! 🛰️ 

1 week ago we unveiled the 1st images from the Infrared Sounder on board our Meteosat Third Generation Sounder 1 satellite, including this striking animation of Ethiopia’s #HayliGubbi volcanic eruption.

Here we see surface temperature changes and the development of an ash plume through infrared channels. By combining multiple wavelengths, scientists can distinguish volcanic ash from sulphur dioxide (shown in blue to red shades) - critical data that can help with aviation safety. ✈️
