In Bandiagara, Mali, years of conflict and displacement filled Kadidia's classroom with children carrying trauma — and left her without the tools to reach them. Seventy-one per cent of Grade 4 students in Mali cannot read at the expected level, and growing class sizes made the challenge harder still. Through Right To Play's EMPOWER project, Kadidia was trained in play-based learning and reading club facilitation — and her students, including Oumar and Anta, are reading with more confidence, participating more fully, and finding joy in a classroom that now works for them.
