75% of the world’s pepper is grown in Asia but in Cambodia, farmers are concentrating on growing organic varieties seen as far superior. In recent years, pepper farmers like Som have seen their incomes increase by over 50% due to investments by IFAD and the government of Cambodia through the ASPIRE project, which have helped them to meet the quality standards and high demand for this pepper from European consumers over 5,000 miles away. .The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is the only international financial institution exclusively focused on transforming rural economies. IFAD invests in rural people and their communities, building food security, shared prosperity and stability. Today, IFAD and its partners have nearly US$23 billion invested in ongoing projects that are transforming rural economies.
