In terms of human consumption, potato is the third most important food crop in the world, after rice and wheat. More than a billion people around the world eat potatoes. This is why experts at UNECE have worked to fully revise the international Standard on Seed Potatoes. This standard guarantees high-quality seed potatoes, which in turn means stronger harvests, fewer crop losses and more resilient food systems. And all of this supports key Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG2 on zero hunger.
